Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at becoming an established star failed. Two different record labels signed her, but removed her from the market before she'd recorded any songs. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, which received some interest due to its humorous song. "I Kissed" a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, that was accompanied by a slashing electronic-pop beat. It was not a popular song, as critics criticized it for encouraging relationships with a partner and others claimed that it portrayed a racy scene that enticed men's fantasies of sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl was a smash hit for Perry's One of the Boys in 2008 because of the mixture of titillation combined with polished melodicism. Hot N Cold's sharp, energetic second single also proved well-loved. The album that Perry composed in large part sold more than three million copies.
